Of Prophets, churches and new years offerings

So yesterday i opened my Facebook feed to see posts about Fadzayi Mahere and the anger people had toward her Facebook post about $77 , $770, $7700 & $77000. This post though it did not talk about Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa directly it was obviously in response to his churches crossover service seed message. For the benefit of those who did not see it she said :

If you have $77, buy some inspirational biographies and start a vision board to keep yourself motivated throughout the year.
If you have $770, spruce up your garden with a parkbench, new shrubs and a bird bath to make your space more zen and more welcoming as you evolve into the best version of yourself. You will need beautiful surrounds to keep you centred and going when all you wish to do is stop. The new year will not be easy.
If you have $7700, hire a stockbroker or a financial advisor. Make your money work for you passively. Invest in learning how to use money more efficiently.
If you have $77 000, buy a fresh property. Devote the year to fixing it up and doubling its market value.

Remember always, God makes it rain, you choose how you SOW!

If you want 2017 to be a fabulous year for you, you will have to WORK damn HARD for it…there shall be no quick fixes, no cucumbers, no sewage, no Doom and most of all, no stupidity! If you are to give, do so wisely. Give to the poor and the less fortunate – the return on your investment shall be that they have a better shot at life.

The greatest MIRACLE God will grant you, is that you will make it through…through fire, through floods, through hardship, through pain and through failure.

The road to a great 2017 lies in the power God has instilled within you to live your best life. You must ACT and play your part!

The real man/woman of God is YOU. You have the required dominion. Harness it!

2017 shall be FIRE!

Now this post caused a lot of people to be angry. While Advocate Mahere is entitled to her opinion; i will explain why UFIC people ( Makandiwa’s church ) where touched and angry at her. Advocate Mahere took a swipe at those who subscribe to the seed faith principle telling them that sowing money in the ministry is a waste of time; it would be better to invest that money as Makandiwa is taking them for a ride. Now Fadzayi Mahere you are entitled to your opinion and i respect you for that but you took a swipe at Prophet Makandiwa ( though your post does not talk about Makandiwa directly everyone who resides in Zimbabwe and those who go to Makandiwa’s church know what you were addressing ). So yes you will get backlash. I apologize to you of the conduct of some of the Christians who then proceeded to say terrible stuff about you. That is not Christ like. Some of those believers are still young in the faith and do not understand that it is not Christ’s way to deal with issues.

However Advocate Fadzayi Mahere you went into the field of theologians and took a swipe at spiritual things clearly stating that it does not work. You took a swipe at the miraculous and claimed that the only miracle God will grant you is the rewards of your labor. But the thing about a miracle is it does not make sense otherwise it would not be a miracle. When you go through the bible you will find that the seed principle is actually there. Now though there is a lot of theological debates around these issue that is not the purpose of my blog post today.

Let me be categorically clear that i do not go to Makandiwa’s church. However i am a Christian ( using the labels people give i am a Pentecostal ). Now let me explain that the concept of seed faith is at the root of the prosperity gospel. What Makandiwa did is not new and it is not limited to Africa only. I grew up on God channel & Daystar and you will find the Kenneth Copelands, Creflo Dollar, Rod Parsely, Bishop T.D Jakes and the list is endless subscribe to the seed faith principle. This is why i am surprised at some Christians who are treating Makandiwa as if he invented this while it is something that is done in every church ( using different terms of cause but we know every New Year everyone is asked to bring their best seed so as to secure their year ). So for those who are using this as a way to show that Makandiwa is a false prophet i ask you to take a closer look at your own churches and you will find they are no different, that seed faith principle; the principle of giving an offering or sacrificing to get a desired return is at the bedrock of the prosperity movement. And those saying its an African thing you need to check out the teachings of some of the ministers in the US and elsewhere.

Now whether this is right or wrong i will leave that for another post for another day. Are there ministers taking advantage of their congregants? That has been the case for ages. Is Makandiwa taking his congregants for a ride? I don’t know i am not God. I however know a lot of people have been healed in his service, a lot of people have seen what they term the hand of God upon their lives, orphans have been fed, widows are being taken care of. Whether he is a false prophet or not i honestly do not know but i know he is doing a lot of good and what he is doing is not new, he has not reinvented the wheel. Before Makandiwa the spotlight used to be on Ezekiel Guti of ZAOGA, at one time the spotlight was on Pastor Tom Deuschle of Celebration church, another time Prophet UberT Angel. Now whether these be true men of God or not i think only God knows the hearts of men. Yes the bible does say false prophets and false teachers shall arise. But i know that there are also true prophets and true teachers as well.

Remember that Jesus in his day was not popular with the religious folk. He did a lot of miracles and i believe Christianity should have the miraculous. I want to say that as a Christian i do not understand a lot of things that have to do with the spiritual realm. I read my bible and try to understand but there is a lot about Christianity that does not make sense, because it is about faith. I will say this though to each his own. If you do not understand the concept of seed faith just don’t do it but don’t be quick to think that those who are involved in it are stupid, wasting their time or are being taken for a ride. Christianity is a complex faith and the fact that we have so many denominations means that there is a lot of confusion on a lot of doctrines and interpreting of the bible.

Now to the UFIC people i want you to know that using bad language, insulting people. That is not Christ like. It is wrong and i pray you repent. Remember the story of the disciples who wanted to call fire upon those who were resisting Jesus teachings, Jesus rebuked them and said you know not of what Spirit you are. Guys God is love and we should always conduct ourselves with love towards others regardless that they believe things that are different from us. Everyone is entitled to their opinion whether they are right or their wrong. Advocate Mahere has every right to voice her opinion whether its wrong or its right. And the Christian response should be always one of love. I actually think Fadzayi Mahere is a Christian herself so we address brethren with love and even if she is not we still should address her in a loving manner. The world would be a better place if Christians just acted like Christ and stopped being these nasty people, its a poor witness to unbelievers and rightly does God say in Romans my name is blasphemed among the unbelievers because of you.

#HappyNewYear Leave the past in the past and start writing a new future

Let me just take this moment to wish everyone in the world a blessed 2017. May you have a prosperous and fruitful year. In 2016 i took a break on blogging. I needed to find myself, i needed perspective and wisdom as most of my posts always led to some contention of some sort; my entire blog caused me to be fired from my previous job L.O.L. Anyway the past is in the past. That is what i have learnt and am learning:

  • Leave the past in the past because the past only belongs in the past, it is the past because it passed away, and it passed away so that something new can come along!
  • Start writing a new future. Once you leave the past you need to start mapping out your future. What do you want to achieve? What can you do better? How can you innovate and move with the times?
  • Immediately start working towards your goals. We all know new years is when people write a lot of resolutions, make a lot of noise about what they want to change and how they want to become better. Unfortunately it just ends on paper. Its great to do resolutions but whats even better is to start working towards them and don’t procrastinate. Immediately start acting out on those resolutions.
  • Ok so the world is becoming more and more dynamic, technology is achieving unbelievable feats. If you are gonna be successful in this new dispensation clearly you have to be a friend of technology; don’t fight it; move with the flow!

By the way don’t forget to subscribe to my blog, this year i will be having very interesting discussions and i hope you can be part of them! Happy 2017 folks!

Worship Night

SOUND-OF-WORSHIP

Is there a type of dancing that is not allowed in church?

I had an interesting debate on facebook recently concerning the issue of the type of dancing acceptable in a church setting and it inspired me to do this article and talk about dance. Firstly it will be important to note that the bible does not categorically state how we should dance and hence a lot of stuff is subjective and depends on opinion and what is deemed acceptable in a particular society. I love to take things from the word so lets dig in to what the scriptures have to say about dancing.

Before you go through the different scriptures  i would like you to take note of certain facts:

  • The bible does not specify how we should dance. All of the scriptures below just lets us know people danced. The bible does not give specific instruction about dancing!
  • In the instances that dance is mentioned the people dancing are not always dancing to the Lord, actually in most of the verses the people are dancing towards their parents or leaders like Jephthah’s daughter, or when the maidens of Israel meet David with dancing
  • There is a time to dance and a time not to dance ( Ecclesiastes 3:4 )
  • Dancing is a way to express our praise to God
  • Dancing is also a way of expressing what the Lord has done for us
  • Sometimes people will not be pleased with the way you dance as shown in the case of David who danced before the Lord with all his might and his wife was offended by his dancing yet he says he would become even more undignified than what he had done    ( 2 Samuel 6:14-16, 21 )
  • Dancing involves leaping and being all out crazy for God

Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took the timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dancing ( Exodus 15:20 )

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness ( Psalm 30:11 )

When Jephthah came to his house at Mizpah, behold, his daughter was coming out to meet him with tambourines and with dancing. Now she was his one and only child; besides her he had no son or daughter. ( Judges 11:34 )

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing: you have put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; ( Psalm 30:11 )
Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises to him with the tambourine and harp. ( Psalm 149:3 )
Praise him with the tambourine and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. ( Psalm 150:4 )
Ecclesiastes 3:4 that speaks of a time to dance;
Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. ( Jeremiah 31:13 )
Below is a scripture which shows that dancing seemed to be a part of the Israeli culture and maybe also maybe  a way people could identify spouses????????
And watch; and behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to take part in the dances, then you shall come out of the vineyards and each of you shall catch his wife from the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin. “It shall come about, when their fathers or their brothers come to complain to us, that we shall say to them, ‘Give them to us voluntarily, because we did not take for each man of Benjamin a wife in battle, nor did you give them to them, else you would now be guilty.'” The sons of Benjamin did so, and took wives according to their number from those who danced, whom they carried away. And they went and returned to their inheritance and rebuilt the cities and lived in them. ( Judges 21:21-23 )

Now lets look at instances where the dancing was evil:

Exodus 32:19-25 – the children of Israel danced naked, and they were dancing before an idol.

This leads me to the conclusion that any dance that exposes body parts or might in any way be sexually suggestive e.g twerking or pole dancing is not the right way of dancing.Dances that have men and women either in close bodily contact or gyrating themselves in each other’s presence in sexually provocative ways and dances specifically designed to arouse sexual feelings or imitate some of the intimacies of the marriage bed are some dances i would say should not be allowed in a church service. But really apart from this there is no specific instruction as to how church folk should dance in church!

Worship and Sin

Many people are failing to worship God because of their sin.How many times have you invited a friend to church and they say i will come to church after i have worked on myself. They usually say ‘ let me first work on myself then i will come to church’

The challenge is there have been preachers that have said for you to come to Christ you have to first deal with yourself first, let go of your sins then come to Christ. This is so messed up because by ourselves we have no ability to deal with sin!

God wants us to come to him in spite of ourselves, in spite of our sin, in spite of our shortcomings. God is not looking for perfect people because there is none good, no not one as Romans 3:23 lets us know.Jesus was always derided by the Pharisees because of his association with people who were sinners, but in his defense he said he came to seek and save the lost. God has no problem with sin, he dealt with it on the cross. Why then do we let our sin come between us and God.

Now one might be wondering where i am going with this. One of the greatest deceptions is to think that you can sort out your righteousness and then come and worship God. The fallacy of this is that when you come to God it is no longer about what Christ did on the cross but about what you have done in making yourself a better person. Remember the case of the self righteous pharisee and the sinner in the temple- you can check out a previous post i did about self righteousness by clicking here. Just hang in there as i build my case on worship and sin.

In Luke 7:37-48

And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

It is interesting that the writer of the texts firsts points out that the woman was a sinner. And yet when this sinner heard of the presence of Jesus she came and poured an alabaster box of ointment. She basically came and worshiped Jesus. And when the others were angry because Jesus was being worshiped by a sinner the response of Jesus is that of one who did not care about the sins that this woman had committed. She applauds the woman for her act of worship then says her sins are forgiven. Amazing hey. Especially since everyone in that room had sins but because they did not worship there is no mention of the forgiveness of their sins.

It is not our sins that cause us to fail to worship but it is our failure to worship that cause us not to be forgiven of our sins. Worship is submission to God and the devil has deceived us so much that we do not submit to God in worship so he can deal with our sinful nature but we seek our own righteousness and in so doing fail to submit to the lordship of Jesus. That is why Jesus in Mathew 21:31 tells the pharisees that harlots and tax collectors will enter the kingdom of heaven before them.

This is why worship is so important and the devil has been trying for millenniums to get people to worship him. His main aim is that people worship and serve the creature more than the creator who is blessed forever! When we truly worship God our lives are changed, when we truly worship God the desire to sin is replaced by a desire to please God. It is the grace of God that leads man to repentance. And that grace is accessed as we worship!

We know the story of Zacchaeus

And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.  ( Luke 19:2-10 )

Zacchaeus sought to see who Jesus was, i call this the wonder in worship. If we can allow whoever to come and see Jesus glorified in worship, i promise you Jesus will speak to the sinner just like he did with Zacchaeus. Can you note that Jesus never told Zacchaeus to return what he had stolen. If it was today that would have been the first port of call for the preacher. It was just the presence of Jesus that convicted Zacchaeus and led him to want to re-compensate from all those he had stolen from. It is only the presence of Jesus that can change the sinner into the saint. It cannot work in reverse, you cant be trying to deal with your sin then you come to Jesus. You come to Jesus in worship and he deals with your sin!

My take on the Israel Houghton Saga

I haven’t written in a while. Firstly my laptop crashed and i lost most of my material ( i usually plan things in advance and had many posts already written ) and secondly have been tied up with promoting my new album. Anyway the purpose of this post is not that but to look at something that is taking place in the body of Christ currently.

One day i wake up to find a story of Israel Houghton on facebook. It was heartbreaking to see that he was getting a divorce but despite all the noise that people were making i just understood one thing: he is man and he falls at times but God is faithful. The saga continued with people questioning his new found love Adrienne Bailon ( some claiming he was cheating on his wife with her, such a claim which Israel dismissed on his facebook page )

Now to get into my post. It is only Christians who shoot their wounded. I find in the bible the story of King David and Bathsheba. Think about it for a moment- this guy sleeps with someones wife, then goes on to kill the husband after the wife is pregnant, and to make matters worse then takes Bathsheba as his wife just after the mourning period. And yet God calls this man, a man after my own heart. Can you imagine the atmosphere in Israel during David’s scandal. Oh and by the way David only repented after he had been confronted by the prophet. But the important thing is he repented.  I dont know all the details of Israel’s issues but i am happy that he came out on social media and confessed his sins and i deeply respected what he did. Very few people in his position would do that. And as to the fact that just after a divorce he is now going out with another woman- well he is a grown man and we cannot determine how and when he can move on after his divorce. I know i might get a lot of backlash because of this post but if God has forgiven him who are we to hold this against him. Remember the issue of the woman caught in adultery- Jesus says he who is without sin let him cast the first stone. Everyone moved away from the greatest first to the least. Jesus said he did not condemn her but that she should go and sin no more.

The bible says if we confess our sins he is faithful and just he is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness.

Christ did not come to create a ministry of condemnation. Unfortunately religion has now caused us to be hypocritical. If we were to expose the sins of all those who are condemning Israel we might just shift our attention off him to those people. God knows i have my own indiscretions and when i see a brother fall i don’t see an opportunity to condemn but rather an opportunity to pray for my brother.

This is my take on the matter. You might disagree with it but i believe Israel Houghton is a man after God’s heart. Has he made mistakes-yes but let us leave him to his maker. It is not our issue lest we be guilty of not forgiving one whom God has already forgiven.

To my brother and fellow worshiper, Israel Houghton. Be strong, take heart, write more songs. I for one am looking forward to the songs that will come from this ordeal. You are a man after God’s heart. Just take heed to your ministry and continue the good work.
